John Baxter Taylor Jr.

For Black History month I’ll be discussing John Baxter Taylor Jr who is the first ever African American to win a gold medal in the Track and Field. He was a veterinary student in the University of Pennsylvania. He won the gold medal in summer 1908 but he unfortunately had a few moments to feel the glory where he sadly passed away in December 2, 1908 by typhoid pneumonia. John Baxter may not be remembered but his staple of being the first gold African American Medalist where A century later he hold a legacy in the Olympic stadium.
